The Developmental Disabilities Alliance of Western New York (DDAWNY) is a regional association of nonprofit provider organizations dedicated to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their families.
DDAWNY brings together executive leaders and subject matter experts from across Western New York to collaborate on shared challenges, exchange information, and advance solutions that strengthen the service system. By fostering communication and alignment among member agencies, DDAWNY helps ensure that providers are equipped to deliver high-quality, person-centered supports within their communities.
A central component of DDAWNY’s work is advocacy. The I/DD service system is significantly shaped by public policy, including Medicaid funding, regulatory requirements, and workforce conditions. DDAWNY represents the collective voice of its members in engagement with the New York State Legislature, the Executive, and state agencies such as OPWDD.
Through these efforts, DDAWNY advocates for policies and investments that support provider sustainability, strengthen the workforce, and ensure individuals with I/DD and their families have access to the services they need. This includes advancing funding priorities, providing feedback on regulatory proposals, and participating in ongoing system planning and reform discussions.
In addition to advocacy, DDAWNY plays a key role in keeping members informed and connected. The organization provides timely updates on policy developments, facilitates discussions on emerging issues, and creates opportunities for collaboration across agencies.
At its core, DDAWNY is committed to advancing a sustainable, responsive, and person-centered system of care—one that supports individuals with I/DD and their families and reflects the expertise and dedication of the provider community.
