Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Senate’s version of the federal tax and spending package, and the president has now signed it into law. This bill includes nearly $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid over the next 10 years.

We’re deeply disappointed in this outcome, despite the tireless advocacy from so many of you who spoke up to protect Medicaid. Every Republican member of the House from New York — including Reps. Nick Langworthy and Claudia Tenney — voted for the bill. Every Democratic member, including Reps. Joe Morelle and Tim Kennedy, and Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, voted against it.

So, what’s next?

Attention now turns to Albany, where New York will have to figure out how to absorb these cuts in its own budget. While some protections for OPWDD services exist, the IDD system remains vulnerable, and the full impact will unfold over time.

We are already working with our partners and lobbyists to plan our next steps. The fight to protect services for people with disabilities continues — and your voice will remain critical.

Thank you for your advocacy so far. Together, we’ve raised awareness and built power — and we’re not stopping here.

Stay tuned for more updates in the days ahead.
